Traditional Boat Building
GranadaVisit location →Spend a day in the family boatyard where Lake Cocibolca pangas are built by traditional methods.
Why this exists.
Every panga takes forty days.
On the shore of Lake Cocibolca, next to Granada, operates the last family boatyard still building wooden pangas by methods dating back to the 1940s. The Zúñiga brothers learned from their father and grandfather. During a day-long visit you'll see the different stages of construction — some pangas barely skeletons, others nearly ready — and take part in simple hands-on tasks: cutting wood, sanding, helping with the base paint. Not a tourist show; it's a real boatyard that works for the lake's fishermen. Shared lunch under the shade of a mango tree.
