Dinner Under the Lanterns
GranadaVisit location →A courtyard, ten lanterns and a five-course menu cooked by the people who live above it.
Why this exists.
Two tables, one chef. Reservations close at sundown.
The house where you eat was built by Lucía's grandmother in 1962. Three rooms around an inner courtyard, a single palm tree at the centre, and ten iron lanterns that come on every night the way they have for sixty years. Lucía and Mateo live upstairs. They cook downstairs, for two tables, three nights a week.
Lucía trained in Mexico City and worked five years in restaurants before coming back to Granada with a simple idea: cook for ten people at a time, with ingredients she could watch grow, in her family's house. Mateo is her partner and runs the front — the conversation, the wine, the music, the light.
You arrive at seven-thirty. Mateo meets you at the door with a cocktail — something citrus, something herbal, tuned to the season. He walks you into the courtyard. The lanterns are already lit. Soft music, the air smells like something being cooked, the other table (if there is one) is quiet.
The five courses are small. Lucía steps out from the back to introduce each one — not as performance, but to tell you where each ingredient comes from, why she chose it, what she's trying to do. One course is almost always fish from the lake. Another almost always involves corn. The menu changes every week, but the rhythm is always the same.
Between courses, conversation. With Mateo, with Lucía, with the other table if the moment invites it. Three hours pass quickly. When dessert ends, Mateo offers a short walk to the lake. Most guests say yes.

"We cook for ten people at a time, in a courtyard our grandmother left us. The lanterns do most of the work."
Why Granada.
Granada is lived in courtyards — more than in plazas or streets. Dinner under lanterns is a way of stepping into one: a family home from 1962, still lived in, where the rhythm of the evening hasn't changed in sixty years.
