Lunch with Fishermen on the Coast
San Juan del SurVisit location →Head out in a panga with two fishermen at dawn, come back with the day's catch, and eat what you brought in, cooked on the sand.
Why this exists.
You catch it, they cook it, you eat it.
Salvador and Chepe have fished together since they were kids. They go out every day between 5 and 6am in a fiberglass panga and are back by noon. During this experience you go with them. You'll learn to cast the line, read the sea, tell a dorado from a snapper. When they get back, wives and family are waiting on the beach. A fire is built, the fish cleaned, cooked whole with coarse salt and lime. Everyone eats together in the shade of a palapa: fish, rice, tortillas, cabbage salad. It's a full day — long, salty, honest.
