Glass Blowing at Dusk
ManaguaVisit location →An afternoon inside a small glass-blowing studio. Learn to shape molten glass beside an artisan who has stood in front of the furnace for twenty years.
Why this exists.
Four people, one furnace, a lot of heat.
Salvador's workshop sits inside a quiet courtyard in a residential Managua neighborhood. He has been blowing glass here for two decades — vases, cups, small sculptures — using techniques he learned working in Guadalajara. For three hours you'll work beside him at the furnace, learning to gather molten glass on the pipe, to blow with the right rhythm, to keep turning so the piece doesn't collapse under its own weight. It's an intense, physical, hypnotic craft. At the end of the day you take home a piece you made with your own hands and a new understanding of why glass has fascinated artisans for 4,000 years.
