Jazz in the Cellar
León
A local jazz quartet plays in the cellar of a colonial building. Capacity twenty. No stage.
Why this exists.
The musicians almost play at your table.
The cellar sits under a used bookstore in central León. Access is by a narrow stair. Inside: brick walls, twenty seats, an old piano, drums, an upright bass, and a sax. The resident quartet plays every Friday and Saturday: two 45-minute sets with an intermission. The acoustics are ideal for a small group. The cellar's advantage is intimacy — you're literally a metre from the musicians. A house cocktail and small bites are served. After the second set, the musicians often sit and chat with the audience.
