Kayaking the Isletas at Sunrise
Las Isletas
A quiet kayak route through Granada's 365 isletas while the sun rises over the Mombacho.
Why this exists.
The lake isn't awake yet.
The Isletas are 365 small islands formed when Mombacho volcano exploded thousands of years ago and threw rocks into Lake Cocibolca. Today they're a mix of houses, jungle, cormorants, and howler monkeys. Departure is at 5am from a hidden dock. Two hours of quiet paddling as light shifts on the water and the volcano begins to define itself on the horizon. The guide has known the archipelago since childhood and knows where the nests are, where the sloths hang, and which routes are quietest. You end with coffee and fruit on a small islet before heading back.
