Hand-Stitched Leather Belt
León
Make a hand-stitched leather belt from start to finish inside a family workshop in central León.
Why this exists.
You cut, stitch, brand. You wear it on the way out.
The workshop occupies the back of a house in León's historic center. It smells of tanned leather, waxed thread, and oil. Marta and her father meet you, help pick the leather, show you how to cut it, punch the holes, and stitch it with saddle stitch — two needles, one thread, the strongest hand-sewn stitch there is. In three hours you finish a belt that can last twenty years. At the end you brand your initials with a hot iron. You put it on and walk out into the street with it.
