Walking the Old Masaya Market
MasayaVisit location →A guided walk through the country's oldest market, stopping at stalls open for generations.
Why this exists.
The vendors know the guide by name.
The old Masaya market has run since the 19th century and remains the town's economic heart. Marta grew up there — her mother sold fruit and her grandmother hammocks. Now she knows most of the vendors by name. Her tour lasts two hours and stops at six key stalls: a craft vendor with fifty years in the same spot, a butcher who cuts the old way, a woman making tortillas in front of you, the rare fruit stand (mamón, sapote, granadilla), a hammock merchant, and a corner where buñuelo with honey is served. A tour that teaches a whole city.
