Stars from Hammocks on Ometepe
OmetepeVisit location →A night watching stars from double hammocks on the Maderas slope, with a guide who knows the southern sky.
Why this exists.
No lights for five kilometres.
Alejandro studied astronomy in Chile and returned to Nicaragua to share the sky. His platform on the flank of Maderas volcano, on Ometepe, is five kilometres from any electric light — a Bortle-3 dark sky, very rare in Central America. He sets up double hammocks under the open sky, a portable telescope, and a small station for tea and wine. The session runs three hours and covers southern constellations, the Milky Way, and planets visible that night. Ideal for couples.
